The Rest of Sunday
After lunch on Sunday, I took a cab to the Field Museum, which I knew wouldn't take me as long as the Art Institute. It was pretty cool -- I always love Ancient Egypt exhibits, and they had a large area devoted to that. On the downside, I guess I was naive not realizing just how many dead and stuffed animals comprise the main level. Sue the Dinosaur, I get, but I decided that I coulda gone to Cabela's if I wanted to see that much taxidermy in a day!
At one point, I saw two little signs that pointed in different directions: "For Dog Lovers" and "For Cat Lovers" and got immediately what that would mean and so I got the hell out of Dodge!!
The famous man-eating African lions showed me how silly our perceptions are from movies. These were maneless lions, unlike the movie, and though large, weren't the HUGE cats portrayed. Don't get me wrong -- I'm not knocking the lions, I'm scolding myself for not knowing the difference between history and movie history. Sigh.
Later, I met my friend Javier for dinner. We walked through Millennium Park and walked under the Bean. Then we went to eat at a very chi-chi pub called the Gage, which was very nice but kinda pricey. I did think that in his element Javier was a bit condescending to me and I tried to ignore most of it but by the time I got in a cab back, thoroughly scolded by him for not carrying cash on me at all times, I'd sort of had it. It'll be fine, though.
